Dave Chawner

Dave Chawner is a comic, author and mental health campaigner.

In 2013, Chawner produced a show with American comic, Robyn Perkins called 'Over It - Death, Anorexia & Other Funny Things'. The show used comedy to talk about taboo topics - namely death and anorexia. Perkins [1] talked about the untimely death of her partner and the unspoken aspects of grief and Chawner talked about his battle with anorexia.[2] The show gained critical acclaim and sold out audiences at The Edinburgh Fringe.[3][4] In 2015 his show 'Normally Abnormal', Chawner explored eating disorders, mental health and identity and looked at his own relapse, recovery and life after anorexia.[5][6]

In 2016, Chawner's show 'Circumcision' looked at sex, sexuality and gender identity, he explains why he had to have a circumcision at the age of 26 and what it means to be a modern 'man'.[7] [8]

Chawner is a media volunteer for BEAT.[9] He has spoken about his anorexia in numerous media outlets.[10][11][12]

Mental Health

Chawner was asked to write the last chapter of Mind's book 'Dear Stranger'.[13]
