Cypress Communications
Cypress Communications (previously known as Cypress Communications Holding Company) is a United States telecommunications firm and a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC). Cypress Communications provides hosted voice, data VoIP and unified communications to small and medium-sized businesses and enterprises across the United States. The company was built via organic customer growth and corporate acquisitions. Companies enfolded into the present-day Cypress Communications include Reignmaker, Shared Technologies, Intermedia Communications, RealCom, Fairchild Communications and Worldcom/Advanced Building Networks.
Unified communications (UC) (1) refers to a trend in business to simplify and integrate all forms of communications and business processes. It is typically a software program and infrastructure improvement. The communications leveraged by this term can include phone, e-mail, chat, voicemail, presence services, and fax. Unified communications integrates these communication mediums so that any activity or message can be easily transferred to another, otherwise known as a seamless user experience. Gains in efficiency can result through an optimization of business processes and enhancing human communications, reducing latency, managing flows, and eliminating device and media dependencies. In 2011, Cypress Communications was purchased by Broadvox, LLC.
Network
Cypress Communications operates a nationwide private VoIP network engineered for 99.999% availability and voice prioritization with no single point of failure. Quality of Service (QoS) is managed from the handset across the building LAN/WAN and then out across the IP network to the PSTN. It is a fully meshed network with logical and virtual paths to/from each city, connecting providing redundant connectivity to each metropolitan area. The network is supported by redundant devices to ensure maximum availability of voice and data communications. The network is designed to automatically detect potential faults and self-correct in order to maintain premium service levels.
The VoIP signaling layer of the Cypress Communications network delivers the calling features to the user's desktop and comprises a carrier-grade softswitch, a multimedia communications server and a unified messaging platform. These components leverage the following VoIP signaling protocols—SIP, H.248 and Media Gateway Control Protocol. All VoIP signaling components are located in geographically diverse data centers to provide redundancy and high availability.
Cypress uses Nortel, Movius, Microsoft and BroadWorks servers and switches in the company's IP network.
