Cuando quiero llorar no lloro (also known as Los Victorinos) was a Spanish language TV series produced by Colombia's R.T.I.. It debuted in April 1991 and concluded in August 1991.[2][1] It was the subject of much controversy at the time was a huge success which inspired two remakes; Victorinos (2009) produced also by R.T.I for Telemundo and Tres Milagros (2011) produced by Teleset for RCN TV.

It is based on the novel of the same name by Miguel Otero Silva.

Plot

In 1963, a renowned mentalist named Norman Reinhart (Omar Sanchez) visits Colombia where his mental powers are broadcast through the radio and television. Two upper-class women, Sara Koppel of Umaña (Maribel Abello) and her aunt Rosalia Koppel (Margalida Castro) attend the show. The mentalist announces that Sara is pregnant and her unborn child will be named Victorino and part of a deadly curse if they met other boys born the same date and name, with a prophecy that said; The day that Victorino found another Victorino and another Victorino, Victorino die and in the session the seer announced that President of United States of America John F. Kennedy would be killed.

Sara does not believe in the prophecy but then discovers she is pregnant and gives birth to his only son Victorino Umaña Koppel who prematurely born November 2 of 1963 in an elegant clinic in Bogota after her husband Rodrigo was discovered traveling with a lover in a pretend job travel. The child is baptized by his grandparents Juan (Carlos Duplat) and Julia and Sara is terrified to wake up to see that his son gave the name prophesied by Reinhart.

While born in a public hospital in the city Victorino Perdomo Rangel, son of Romulo Perdomo (Edgardo Román), a humble barber ANAPO party member, and Amparo Rangel (Patricia Grisales), a housewife. The Perdomo family has two girls, Carola and Maria Eugenia, called in honor of the wife and daughter respectively of President Gustavo Rojas Pinilla. Coincidentally Amparo is one of the people present at the session Reinhart giving his prophecies.

Simultaneously Victorino Moya born in a hovel in the hills of the city. Rubelia (Adelaida Otalora), his mother was maid of the family Umaña-Koppel. Ceferino (Alejandro Muñoz), Victorino's father left his family to seek his fortune in the eastern plains and then Rubelia marries Facundo (Álvaro Rodriguez), a worker who beats her when he's drunk and with whom he has two more children, Mireya and Guillermo.

Over the years, each with their family lives Victorino completely different realities.

Victorino Umana (David Guerrero) to be rich study in the best schools, is a handsome young man, he graduated from the best university, traveling the world and going from party to party wasting their money on luxuries with his best friend Juan Andres Alzate 'Juancho' (Andrés Marulanda) and her cousin Ana Maria Londoño Koppel (Alexandra Restrepo). Although his mother Sara, has zealously guarded the prophecy of Reinhart, Victorino whole and through Edmundo (Waldo Urrego), a leading senator and her mother's boyfriend, looking at his two namesake and locate them but can not get the three gather. As typical rich kid, Victorino gets into trouble and scandals, marries her cousin Ana Maria, who is unfaithful to his friend 'Juancho' Alzate, and through it engages in business with 'The Southerner', a drug trafficker who has a pilot named Daniel Schumacher, who becomes their intermediary.

Since childhood, Victorino Perdomo (Ricardo Gómez) has great art activities, and enters study at a seminary, because his father does not have money to pay a private school, and seminary priest knows the Augustine Lajarreta (Luis Fernando Montoya) who became his mentor. After misunderstandings and scandals and nonconformist attitude is expelled from the seminary while his father is sent to prison for political persecution. Years later, Victorino comes to study at the National University to study architecture. There contact leftist ideals and abetted by Maria Helena aka 'Rosana' (Maria Fernanda Martínez) joins a guerrilla group called 'Popular Defence'.

Victorino Moya (Ramiro Meneses) has not had the same opportunities as their namesakes. It becomes then assassin thief with 'The Black' (Ulises Colmenares), his best friend. Victorino does not support the mistreatment and abuse of his mother and sister Mireya by Facundo and with a stolen gun murders his stepfather. From teen joins the gang of 'Carroloco' and 'The Black' are raped. Now adults, both join a criminal group led by 'The Goose', 'The Blind' (Jorge Herrera) and 'Rapidol' (Horacio Tavera), this latest neighborhood friends with them. After robbing a bank and have a party to celebrate the coup leaders Victorino is ordered to kill 'The Black' as proof of loyalty, but Victorino refuses and soon after 'The Black' is killed while Victorino makes believe his bosses that he was the one who killed him. After trying to kill Schumacher, Victorino is arrested and in jail he meets his father Ceferino who helps him survive and then to escape from jail. Shortly after and a money problem with bosses is ordered to assassinate Schumacher.

In 1983 when he and three Victorinos exceed the age of majority, is produced and prophetic fatal encounter; Victorino Umana accompanied by 'Juancho' and Schumacher are directed at Korean Bank to negotiate with the manager a loan to cover the loss of a shipment held in Mexico drug. Coincidentally Victorino Perdomo arrive at the bank accompanied by his guerrilla comrades for the purpose of rob the bank, and in turn appears Victorino Moya with the task of killing Schumacher. Once in the bank there is a shootout between the guerrillas and the guards of the bank, in which die Victorino Perdomo, Schumacher and 'Juancho' and other bank customers. Victorino Moya is mortally wounded and flees the scene but bled to death shortly before arriving home. Victorino Umana unharmed and pays testimony to the police denying Schumacher meet his namesake killed (who were known and tried to unite the three Victorinos). When Victorino Umana returns home he tells Ana Maria that 'Juancho' died in the shootout and implores him to flee crying since they are bankrupt and with very many debts. She is furious and tells him that she loved 'Juancho' while he was unfaithful to him, Victorino also tells that she never loved him, because since children had been almost forced to be together and that its sole presence was causing disgust and leaves. Victorino crying broken and disillusioned shows a Walther PPK that Schumacher had given her and commits suicide by shooting himself in the mouth, at the precise moment when Ana Maria returns apparently regretting what she had said, but too late to prevent the tragedy.

The funeral of the three Victorinos takes place in the Central Cemetery of Bogotá, without any of the families of the deceased found out what happened to the others. Victorino Umana is buried in a luxurious mausoleum. Victorino Perdomo is buried in a vault of rent being fired by several hooded guerrillas and Victorino Moya is buried in the poorest section of the cemetery. At the end of the three mothers Victorinos found at the entrance of the cemetery.

Controversy

The series had high rates of rating though full of criticism from experts and viewers for its explicit scenes of sex and violence. After two months, with 9 episodes aired, the National Television Commission ordered its cancellation for 4 months beginning on April 30, 1991.[3] After protests from viewers and fans of the series, allowed this continue on July 28 of the same year but on a schedule suitable for thematic more, as of 21:45 UTC-05 22:45. The last episode aired on August 18, 1991.[1]
