The Collegium Charter School ("CCS"), is located in Exton, Pennsylvania, at the Oaklands Corporate Center, in a campus setting, containing four separating buildings, to which students from grades K-12, currently attend. In 2015, CCS represents students from "over 20 districts, from as close as West Chester, Downingtown and Coatesville to as far as Lancaster, Daniel Boone, Twin Valley and Philadelphia."[1] In 2015, it was publicly reported that CCS currently has plans to acquire two additional buildings, where, the "plan is to gradually move all the elementary students into the two buildings so they can remain there for six years." In 2015–2016, CCS is projecting a student population of "over 2,600 students."[1]
Brief history
CCS was started in January 1999 by a group of concerned West Chester residents, including Bill Winters (current CEO), Anne Rich and Beth Jones, pursuant to Pennsylvania's 1997 revision to the public school code known as Act 22 (the "charter school law").[2] On March 20, 2015, the school issued a public press release, setting forth that Bill Winters, the current CEO of CCS, would be retiring, after serving in that position for over 16 years, and that a search for a new CEO would be commenced.[3] On July 1, 2015, CCS announced by way of Press Release, the selection of Dr. Antoinette Rath, to serve as the school's second CEO.[4] According to the CCS Press Release, "since 2002, Rath was the superintendent of Mount Laurel Schools [and] The U.S. Secretary of Education appointed Rath for the Mid-Atlantic Region of the U.S. Department of Education in 2004.[4]
In terms of athletics, CCS is part of the Tri-County Independent School League (TCISL) which includes, the AIM Academy, Barrack Hebrew Academy, Collegium Charter School, Delaware Valley Friends School, Kimberton Waldorf, Mercy Vocational High School, The Perkiomen School, The Phelps School, Renaissance Academy Charter School, West-Mont Christian Academy, and Woodlynde School.[5]
