Major General Colin Terry Shortis CB CBE (born 1934) is a former senior British Army officer.[1]
Biography
Born on 18 January 1934, Colin Shortis was educated at Bedford School. He enlisted in the British Army in 1951 and received his first commission in the Royal Fusiliers in 1953. He transferred to the Dorset Regiment in 1953, and served in Hong Kong, the Suez Canal Zone, with the British Army of the Rhine, in Aden, Singapore and British Guiana, between 1953 and 1963. He served in Malta, Northern Ireland, Cyprus and with the British Army of the Rhine, between 1974 and 1977. He was Commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade, between 1978 and 1980, and Commander of the British Military Advisory and Training Team in Zimbabwe, between 1982 and 1983. He was the British Army's Director of Infantry, between 1983 and 1986, and General Officer Commanding, North West District, between 1986 and 1989.[2]
Major General Colin Shortis was invested as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1980, and as a Companion of the Order of the Bath in 1988. He retired from the British Army in 1989.[3]
