Cock Crow at Dawn was a Nigerian edutainment serial that aired weekly on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) network in the early 1980s. The project was developed and financed by NTA and United Bank for Africa to promote interest in farming. However, it was criticized by some writers as a propaganda tool for Shagari's Green Revolution programme.[1]

Production

The idea for Cock Crow at Dawn came from NTA as part of the networks effort to increase awareness about the Green Revolution programme of the Shehu Shagari's administration and also to use entertainment to market large scale mechanized farming to middle and upper class Nigerians.[2] NTA shopped the idea to UBA which agreed to fund production cost as part of its agricultural credit scheme. Peter Igho, an NTA employee who had developed a drama show at NTA Sokoto was hired to write and develop the serial. The choice of location was Sabon Garin Tarria, a rural setting about 20 kilometers from Jos.
