Christos is a common Greek given name, with two distinct spellings in Greek:
- "Χρίστος", Chrístos, from the adjective "χριστός", christós, i.e., "anointed" or "chosen one", the Christian theological term for the Messiah
- "Χρήστος", Chrēstos, from the adjective "χρηστός", chrēstós, i.e., "useful".
In Modern Greek, the two spellings are practically interchangeable and are both pronounced with the stress on the next-to-last syllable, distinguishing them from Christós, Christ, which is accented on the last syllable, preventing confusion between this name and that of Jesus Christ. (cf. Stavros)
