Chanelle: Wannabe Popstar[1] is a British reality show following ex-Big Brother housemate Chanelle Hayes as she attempts to become a singer and performer. Cameras follow her every move as she learns how to dance and improve her singing voice, with the plan eventually to sign with a record company, record a song and release a video in the charts. Chanelle finds that it is not all glamour and a lot of hard work is ahead of her.[2][3]

Broadcasts

The show aired on VH1 in the United Kingdom, on Fridays at 9.30 pm. The show was repeated on TMF (Freeview) on Sundays at 5.00 pm, and on TMF, VH1 and MTV One in subsequent weeks.

Format

Episode 1

Following on from the VH1 show Wannabe, the first episode showed Chanelle's home life in Wakefield and life before Big Brother. Introducing the people that Chanelle will need to support her in her journey towards pop stardom. Showing old footage of Chanelle as a young girl and her insecurities about her ability to tackle the challenges ahead, as explained to her by her agent and co-workers.[4][5][6]

Episode 2

Episode 2 contains footage of Chanelle discussing the writing of a song with Ben Ofoedu of Phats & Small fame. Ben lets Chanelle have a say in the writing and theme/attitude of the song. Vocal Coach David Laudat helps to build her confidence and gives her technical advice with breathing and concentration. Chanelle then falls ill, holding up recording of the song and annoying Eminence Records bosses. All is made up though when Chanelle finally gets to the recording studio to show what she can do.[7]

Episode 3

Dance choreographer K-Knight helps Chanelle get to grips with the dance routine for the music video to go with her song "I Want It". First she has to choose the dancers that are going to perform with her on the Video and on stage. Chanelle voices her doubts about her own dancing skills. K-Knight says that she is doing well and all she needs is more confidence in her own ability. Chanelle goes house hunting in outer London to see what she can get for her money, fending off spiders and criticising fireplaces, she decides on a house she is interested in. Having done well in the dance routines/practise, Chanelle then decides upon outfits for the video with the help of her stylist, visiting her home wardrobe and Divas Corsets to find a sexy outfit to fit the songs mood. The episode ends with chanelle voicing doubts to her agent about the idea of shooting the whole video in a barn.[8]

Episode 4

It's the day of the video shoot. Following the shoot, Chanelle jets off to Spain to pose for pictures for her new 2009 Calendar, taking some time out whilst there to brush up on her Spanish language skills.

Episode 5

Chanelle flies to Dublin, Ireland for the very first public performance of her new single "I Want It".

Episode 6

Chanelle performs at G-A-Y nightclub in London, and finds out the position of her single in the UK Singles Chart.
