The Four-toed Skink, Chalcidoceps thwaitesii, also known as Thwaites' skink, is a species of skink endemic to island of Sri Lanka.
Habitat & Distribution
A highly fossorial skink from Knuckles Mountain Range, between 700-1000m.
Description
Snout scute but rather flat. Eyes small with scaly lower eyelids. Midbody scales smooth, in 24-26 rows. Body and tail elongate. Tail is as wide as body. Limbs short and rudimented, each bearing four toes, the inner two being short. Dorsum dark brown, with a blackish-brown central region.
Ecology & Diet
In many places, they live in sympatry with skinks of the genera Nessia and Lankascincus.
Diet comprises insects.
Reproduction
2 eggs, measuring 6-11 * 18mm are produced in April.
