Controversies
Allegations on U.R Ananthamurthy
Well known kannada and Jnanapeeta Awardee writer Dr U.R. Ananthamurthy , on September 16, 2016,[4][5] said he will not live in a country with Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister. Activists of NaMo Brigade, a group supporting Mr. Narendra Modi for prime minister, started sending money orders of 12 rupees to 100 rupees to his home. The Activist said the money could be used to buy a plane ticket to leave the country.[6]
Being a organiser Chakravarti Sulibele took the situation very seriously. After the Lok Sabha Election in May 2014 He said -
“We decided to send him to Pakistan because he always talks about how our relationship with Muslims should be.So we thought maybe he likes Pakistan’s secularism model better and better be sent there."[7]
He later added-
"The mandate after the results were out was quite clear. Mr. Ananthamurthy must respect the majority sentiment and accept it. If he does not accept the mandate and thinks Pakistan is a more secular country, then that is where he should be living.”[8]
The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka denied involvement with the NaMo Brigade. Ironically, the Shimoga unit of BJP issued a flight ticket to U.R. Anantamurthy to travel to Karachi.[9]
