Masacre de Cayey

The Masacre de Cayey or Cayey Massacre, was an event where four people were murdered during March 13, 1994 in various points of Puerto Rico. Of the four victims, three were killed in Cayey, reason why the local press gave the case the nickname Masacre de Cayey.[1]

Murders

Angel Castro-Alifonso was suspected of stealing between $4.2 and $7 million dollars from a gang allegedly led by Edsel Torres Gomez.[2] On March 13, 1994, he and three other people were intercepted by henchmen and Castro-Alifonso was murdered on the spot of multiple shotgun blasts. The three others were then driven to Caguas, where they were tortured and interrogated. They were allegedly made to drink gasoline, and then driven to Cayey, where they were shot and their bodies set on fire. The three bodies were found burned inside a car.[3]

The three victims who were murdered in Cayey were innocent bystanders; Castro-Alifonso had reunited with them with the purpose of buying some real-estate property from them.

Puerto Rican newspaper El Vocero ran a series of articles about this massacre during 1998.
