Cambridge International Examinations (or CIE, formerly known as the University of Cambridge International Examinations) are a provider of international qualifications, offering examinations and qualifications to 10,000 schools in more than 160 countries.[2]
The board of education is a division of Cambridge Assessment, the trading name of University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), founded in 1858[3] as a not-for-profit non-teaching department of the University of Cambridge.[4][5][6]
Qualifications
Qualifications offered by CIE include:
- Cambridge International General Certificate of Education - Advanced Level (Cambridge International GCE A-Levels)[7]
- Advanced International Certificate of Education Diploma (AICE Diploma)[8]
- Cambridge Pre-U programme[9]
- International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)[10]
In addition, CIE provides Key Stage examinations for primary and secondary schools across the globe.[11]
Cambridge International AS and A Levels are available in a choice of 55 different subjects. Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year course, and Cambridge International AS level is typically one year. Some subjects can be started as a Cambridge International AS Level and extended to a Cambridge International A Level.
Primary programme
Cambridge International Examinations offers a primary years programme called Cambridge Primary, providing curriculum support for affiliated primary schools.[12]
Recognition
CIE qualifications are recognised for admission by UK universities (including Oxford and Cambridge)[13] as well as universities in the United States (Stanford and all Ivy League universities),[13] Canada, European Union, Middle East, West Asia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and around the world.[13]
