Proposition 65 is a California ballot proposition on the November 8, 2016 ballot that would redirect money collected by grocery and certain other retail stores through mandated sale of carryout bags, and require stores to deposit bag sale proceeds into a special fund to support specified environmental projects.[1]
It passed by a vote of 55%.[2] Together with the passage of Proposition 67, Senate Bill 270, which bans plastic shopping bags, was upheld and will go into effect.[3]
