C. Norman Shealy

Clyde Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D. is an American neurosurgeon and a pioneer in pain medicine. He is credited with the invention of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator, spinal cord stimulator, and radiofrequency ablation for back pain arising from facet arthropathy.[1]

Education

Dr. Shealy graduated from Duke University School of Medicine and completed his training at Duke University Medical Center, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital.[2]

Western Reserve Medical School

Dr. Shealy spent 3½ years at Western Reserve Medical School researching and developing spinal cord stimulator and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator (TENS™).
