Brian McDonough

Brian McDonough MD is an Irish-American physician, writer, and media personality in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the author of four books including Talking Health with Dr. Brian McDonough. Prior to his medical career Brian McDonough competed in Tennis at the collegiate level as two time team captain while at LaSalle University and it is during those years that he was introduced to the media as an announcer of various sports. It was Mort Crim, at that time a News Anchor for KYW-TV, who suggested he consider a broadcasting career after hearing some of his work. McDonough worked at various media outlets during his medical school years at Temple University and gained experience in sports broadcasting and news production. He was first seen on WHYY-TV in 1985 as part of the station's 5:30 pm newscast and within six months was providing regular features for Lifetime Cable Network.

McDonough is a Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine and Chairman of the Family Medicine Department at St. Francis Healthcare, Wilmington, DE. He maintains an active practice. Dr. McDonough is also known for his work in information technology. He serves as Chief Medical Information Officer at Saint Francis Hospital. Brian McDonough, MD has received numerous awards including: Family Physician of The Year, National Medical Broadcaster of The Year, The Sir William Osler Award for Bedside Teaching, and is an inductee in The Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame. He is a Fellow of The American Academy of Family Physicians and The College of Physicians of Philadelphia and has earned both The Health IT Leadership Certificate and the degree of Certified Physician Executive from The American College of Physician Executives.

Dr McDonough can be presently heard on many radio stations in the United States. In addition to the daily feature reports heard throughout the United States, he serves as Medical Editor at KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia (since 1988) and 1010 WINS in New York City (since 1996). Among his honors, he has won four Emmy Awards over a twenty-year span working with Fox Television. He also has appeared as a contributor to NBC's Today Show. Dr. McDonough is host of "Primary Care Today" on ReachMD. McDonough is a dual citizen of both the United States and Ireland. He speaks nationally and internationally on topics in healthcare as well as healthcare informatics.[1][2]
