Bir Shreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College (BNMPC) (Bengali: বীরশ্রেষ্ঠ নূর মোহাম্মদ পাবলিক কলেজ) (formerly known as Bir Shreshtha Noor Mohammad Public School & College (BNMPSC)) is a Bangladeshi secondary school and college situated inside the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) HQ in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. It was founded to educate the offsprings of Border Guards Bangladesh personnel,[1] and is now open for civilians as well.

History

The institution was founded on 2 August 1977 as a junior school. In 1978, it was recognised as a secondary school. The first batch of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinees appeared in 1980. In 1983, the institution was upgraded to a college and the first Higher Secondary (School) Certificate (HSC) examinees appeared in 1985. An English version of the institute was established in 2004.[1] The name of the institution was changed in 2011 due to the renaming of the Border Guard Bangladesh.[2]

Academics

This institution offers both primary and secondary education alongside higher secondary education. The secondary level offers classes for science and commerce groups, the higher secondary level also offers humanities. Bengali and English language versions are available up to secondary level.

Students are usually admitted in KG and Class 1 through lottery draw. Admission in class 2 to 9 are announced upon presence of vacant seats, students are required to take written examinations and give an interview for selection. According to the revised regulations of the government, students are chosen through the GPA score of past SSC exam for getting admission into college.

Curriculum

The school follows the curriculum published by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board, Bangladesh and Board of Secondary and Intermediate Education. The curriculum offers Bengali and English versions. The institution is recognized by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka. The secondary level offers SSC and the higher secondary level offers HSC examinations.

Shifts

Morning and day shifts are offered by the institution. In the Bengali version, Unisex classes are held up to class 5 in the morning shift. Male students studying in class 6 or above are required to join the day shift classes. The English version offers only the morning shift for all students, regardless of class and gender.[2]

The entire campus consists of a total of five buildings: School Building, Multipurpose Building, College Building #1, College Building #2 and a separate building for the English version. The first four buildings and a wall surround the entire campus of the Bengali version of the institute.
