Betty Jo Nelsen
Betty Jo Nelsen (b. October 11, 1935 in Boston, Massachusetts) is a former member of the Wisconsin State Assembly.
Biography
Nelsen graduated from Dedham High School and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, in 1957. She is married with three children and resides in Shorewood, Wisconsin.[1]
Career
Nelsen was first elected to the Assembly as a Republican in a special election in July 1979. She became Minority Leader in 1987. Nelsen remained a member of the Assembly until 1990, when she was succeeded by Alberta Darling.
Nelsen served as Administrator of the Food and Nutrition Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. from 1990 until 1992, when she was nominated and confirmed as an Assistant Secretary of Agriculture for Food and Consumer Services and a member of the Board of Directors of the Commodity Credit Corporation. Nelsen served in that position until 1993.[2]
