Legendary Bolivian-based Designer died on March 13, 2016 after dedicating 30 years in placing luxurious cameloid designs in haute couture, couture and ready to wear collections with Bolivian craftsmanship in the international fashion arena.

Understated elegance and sophistication is a credo of Beatriz Canedo Patiño, born in La Paz, Bolivia, into the heart of a family, which influenced her passion for the beauty and colors of her homeland. After fashion design studies in Paris and a period of intensive training with prestigious Couturiers, Ms. Canedo Patiño founded in 1987, her own Fashion House, Royal Alpaca, in New York’s 550 Seventh Avenue. At this time, The New York Times quoted “Beatriz Canedo Patiño is a designer with a mission-she wants to tell the world about the virtues of Alpaca.” Eleanor Lambert continued to say “I thought that beautiful, sexy cloth coats were extinct until I saw the gorgeous array by Patiño.”

Royal Alpaca operated next to prestigious labels such as: Donna Karan, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Bill Blass and several others. It was in New York where Beatriz Canedo Patiño began her legacy to introduce eco-friendly and luxurious collections by which her use of these fine cameloid fabrics helped not only the cameloid textile industry by placing these fine wools on the map, but also increased the conservation of these precious animals since the alpaca and vicuña are not sacrificed for their wool as they are sheared once a year.

It was her love for these precious cameloids and her native Bolivia which made her move her operation to her hometown of La Paz, Bolivia in 1994 to further her mission and belief of the high craftsmanship of Bolivian tailors so she founded the Fashion House of Beatriz Canedo Patino under the BCP Made in Bolivia label.

She was known in the fashion trade and in the international press as the “Queen of Alpaca,” because it is the Alpaca and Vicuña textiles that have been the foundation for her most exquisite collections. For over 30 years, The Beatriz Canedo Patiño Fashion House has been utilizing the finest of these natural fibers.

Her use of the Alpaca and Vicuña wools, have not only helped the textile industry, but also increased the conservation of these precious animals. The Alpaca and Vicuña are not sacrificed for its wool; they are sheared once a year. In addition, the industry supports thousands of Alpaca breeders and their families in Bolivia. Ms. Canedo Patiño built her well-known international Registered Trademark, Beatriz Canedo Patiño, entirely around these exclusive and luxurious Cameloid fabrics.

Ms. Canedo Patiño received many international awards throughout her professional career. Among these distinctions are the “Golden Thimble Award” for excellence in design and tailoring, and the “Gold Plate Award” for manufacturing the best export product of Bolivia. She was also named “Executive of the Year” by Price Waterhouse & Coopers – Bolivia. Also, she was nominated with the “Excellence in Latin America Award” as one of the 19 most outstanding business people.

She was invited by United Nations (UNCTAD) and Green2greener to participate in the prestigious event Eco Chic-Couture 2010, at the Palais des Nations, Geneva. Following the event, Ms. Canedo Patiño’s Gala Gown was selected to be presented in Basel and Asia. In addition, Ms. Canedo Patiño participated in the Hispanic Designers' Gala under the Chairmanship of Mrs. Hillary Clinton, Washington D.C., alongside other prestigious participants such as Carolina Herrera, Paloma Picasso, Oscar de la Renta, Adolfo Dominguez, Angel Sanchez, Agatha Ruiz and Narciso Rodríguez.

The national and international media have widely covered Ms. Canedo Patiño as an eminence in the Andean region. She has been featured in the New York Times, The Washington Post, Women’s Wear Daily, “W”, Die Zeit (Germany), Financial Times of London, Vogue Magazine, Town & Country, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanidades, Marie-Claire (Japan), Elle Magazine (Paris), CNN, TVE, ARD, Deutsche Welle, Discovery Channel, People & Arts, etc.
