Azimi Daim

Azimi Daim is a Malaysian politician and Information Chief of the Youth wing of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO). He was born on 22 April 1964 in Sungai Petani, Kedah. He graduated from Universiti Teknologi MARA and also studied at University of Hartford.[1]

Party Politics

In 2006, together with Hashim Suboh and Hasnoor Hussein, he was officially reprimanded by UMNO for stating that "when tension rises, the blood of Malay warriors will run in our veins", which the opposition Democratic Action Party (DAP) had alleged was seditious. This was reportedly the first time UMNO leaders had been reprimanded for the content of their speeches.[2] Azimi said:

I accept the advice as a reminder for myself for the future. I admit my mistake and will accept the advice of the supreme council. But it doesn’t mean I cannot speak on the rights and priorities of the Malays. It’s just that I’ll be more careful. ... It was not meant to be threatening but more of a reminder for the younger generation. I've been speaking in the party general assembly since 1997. Some even consider me as a seasoned speaker. I have used the same style of speaking since Day One. But I’m surprised at how this issue has been played up.[3]

Azimi blamed the opposition parties of the DAP and Keadilan for blowing the issue out of proportion.[3]
