Celine Dion concert chronology |
The Asia Tour was planned to be the eleventh concert tour by Canadian singer Celine Dion. The tour was organized to support the English language album Loved Me Back to Life, and was scheduled to take place in October and November 2014.[1] It will mark Dion's first concerts in Asia since the Taking Chances World Tour in 2008. While Japan and the Philippines were the only confirmed stops of the tour, it has been revealed that the singer was planned to be performing dates in several Asian countries for the very first time.[1]
Background
The tour was officially announced on Dion’s official site on 29 June 2014, with the dates for the Japanese leg of the tour. Four concerts in Japan, including one in Nagoya and one in Osaka, as well as two in Tokyo were planned.[2] On 9 August 2014, it was confirmed that she would play two dates in Taipei (Taiwan) between 27 October 2014 and 30 October 2014.[3] According to "Le journal de Montréal" Dion was also going to perform in Shanghai and Macau (China), Manila (Philippines) and Singapore, however these stops were never officially confirmed.[4] On 22 July 2014, it was announced that she would be performing in Manila, Philippines on 29 November 2014.[5] Additionally two days earlier, it was announced by inquirer.net that Celine would perform a private, invitation only concert at Solaire Resort & Casino's new performing arts theater on 26 November 2014.[6]
Commercial performance
Celine's concerts in Tokyo and Osaka sold out immediately after tickets went on sale.[7]
Cancellation
On 13 August 2014, Celine has announced that the tour has been cancelled due to ongoing illness and family issues.
According to a statement released by the singer:
“ | "I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so, it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children," Dion said in a statement.
"I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support."[8] |
” |
According to her current management, Celine will not be rescheduling the Asian Mini-tour due to husband Rene Angelil's recent battles with throat cancer. However, it's now being speculated that Celine will do an Asian tour in 2017 as part of a series of concerts in Europe, the UK and North America in order to promote her upcoming english album. Nothing has been confirmed yet.
Opening acts
In the official announcement for the Japan and Philippine tour, it was revealed that the impersonator Véronic DiCaire had been invited to join Celine as the opening act for these shows.[1]
Set list
The official setlist had yet to be announced, although in an exclusive video message to her Japanese fans, Dion promised a new show featuring songs from her latest English album, Loved Me Back to Life, as well as fan favorites from the past.[9]
