The Armenian whiskered bat (Myotis hajastanicus), also known as the Hajastan myotis or the Armenian myotis, is a species of bat from the family Vespertilionidae. The Armenian whiskered bat was formerly included as a part of the whiskered bat, but was considered distinct in 2000[2] as a result of morphologic comparison.[1]
Overview
In spite of two surveys, there have been no records of the Armenian whiskered bat since the 1980s,[1] and the species was only ever located in the Sevan Lake basin in Armenia.[2] There have been no recorded male individuals, and the species is possibly extinct.[1] Until further surveys can determine if extinction is certain, the Armenian whiskered bat is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List.[1]
