Apron of Magic (まほうのエプロン Mahō no epuron) is an arcade collectible card cooking game developed and published by Examu. The game was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Sanrio and features various characters from the Sanrio Company, including ones from the anime series. The game was released in Japan on July 26, 2010 and has been into several revisions during its release. Starting with the revision in 2012, the game is now officially tied to both the Jewelpet and Arcana Heart franchises.

An official iOS version was released on June 13, 2012, featuring only six playable characters.[1] Another port of the game titled Hello Kitty & Apron of Magic: Rhythm Cooking (ハローキティとまほうのエプロン リズムクッキング♪ Harōkiti to ma hō no epuron rizumukukkingu ♪) is also released on the Nintendo 3DS on December 12, 2013. The game was released in Europe on November 6, 2015 as Hello Kitty and the Apron of Magic Rhythm Cooking,[2] and in North America on January 28, 2016 as Hello Kitty's Magic Apron.[3]

Gameplay

Apron of Magic involves using special collectible cards, which needs to be scanned first in the arcade machine, with the gameplay is done by using the touchscreen. The cards to be scanned in order is the character cards (Red), the ingredient card (Yellow) and lastly, a Magic Power Card (Blue) in exact order, thought there is a time limit and the player can scan as many card as they can. The player then needs to follow some steps in the game to make sure the food has been prepared and cooked well in the process. Presentation and tasting were done in the end. If the player fails in one of those steps, the dish the player will cook will not end well.

Cards

The Cards used in the games were classified in color in which distinguishes itself from another.

Character Cards (Red)
Character Cards are the main cards of the game, in where represents the Sanrio character who will cook in the game. The player can only scan two of these in each gameplay.
Ingredient Cards (Yellow)
These are special cards which represents the food the player is about to cook. These are also important in the game. The player can only scan one of these cards.
Magic Power Card (Blue)
The Magic Power Cards were represented in blue and these adds special magic to the dishes the player makes. The player can only scan one of these cards.

Characters

In commemoration to the 50th anniversary of the company, Sanrio included several characters which gets expanded later on in each revision. More characters are also added in each revision, making it have the highest number of Sanro Characters that ever debuted in the game. Heart Aino and Saki Tsuzura, characters from EXAMU's fighting game Arcana Heart also appear in the game as playable cameo characters.[4]

Devi Jamal (デビ・ジャマール Debi Jamāru)

One of the main antagonists of the game and Vivi's sister, Devi is a devil mouse who has a selfish behavior and desire to eat. She usually appears in the game as a boss, and must clear her minigame in order to pass.

Vivi Jamal (ビビ・ジャマール Bibi Jamāru)
Voice Actor: Shizuka Itō

Devi's younger sister, Vivi is also a devil mouse who is very evil and cunning despite her cowardly and young appearance. She usually schemes her plans, though they sometimes fail. She usually appears in the game as a boss, and must clear her minigame in order to pass.
