Anwara Begum is a Bangladeshi academic. She is the first ever female to serve as a Vice-chancellor of a university in Bangladesh.[1] In 2006, she was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh for her contribution to education.[2] She was married to the former President of Bangladesh, Iajuddin Ahmed.[3]
Career
Begum was a Professor of the Department of Zoology at the University of Dhaka. She later served as the Chairman of the Department of Zoology and the Provost of the Shamsun Nahar Hall.[3]
Begum is the first Chairman of the Board of Trustee and the founding Vice-chancellor of Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology, a private university in Dhaka.[4]
Personal life
Begum and her husband Iajuddin Ahmed had a son, Imtiaz Ahmed Babu.
