Anton Powers
Anton Powers is a British DJ, record producer, remixer and radio presenter. He is also a member of UK-based remix/production/DJ team Cahill. He is best known for his number 1 collaboration with Philip George, Alone No More
Early life
Powers hails from Crosby, Liverpool, and fell in love with dance music aged 14 when he first heard Mory Kante’s tribal house classic Yeke Yeke. "I had never heard anything like it before in my life. It got me hooked on house music and inspired me to become a DJ." He bought his first secondhand belt drive turntables and, as a clubber at Liverpool’s 051 and Cream, early influences included DJs such as Roger Sanchez, Erick Morillo and Stu Allan.
Record Label
In 2000, Powers started working at dance music specialist shop 3 Beat Records in Liverpool, where he was already a regular. Known as one of the best in the country for DJs, it attracted customers including Paul Oakenfold, Pete Tong, Sasha and Carl Cox and it gave him an insight into the industry, record labels, distributors and pluggers.
In 2003, Powers began working as A&R for Boss Records, a newly formed label under the 3 Beat umbrella, in partnership with Ministry of Sound. From 2003 to 2007, he worked in Liverpool and London signing artists and songs including Angel City – Do You Know (UK chart #8), Angel City – Love Me Right (UK chart #11); Aaron Smith – Dancin (UK chart #20); Studio B – I See Girls (UK chart #12); Mason v Princess Superstar - Perfect (Exceeder) ( UK chart #3).
In 2007, Powers became A&R for new record company 3 Beat Productions, created in partnership with Universal Music. He was responsible for further hits including Martin Solveig – Hello (UK chart #13); Duck Sauce – Barbra Streisand (UK chart #3); Sak Noel – Loca People (UK chart #1); Agnes – Release Me (UK chart #3); Ian Carey – Get Shaky (UK chart #9); Edward Maya – Stereo Love (UK chart #4); Inna – Hot (UK chart #6); Skepta – Rescue Me (UK chart #14); Sigma – Nobody To Love/Changing (both UK chart #1); Alyssa Reid – Alone Again (UK chart #2); Kungs v Cookin On 3 Burners – This Girl (UK chart #2); Philip George – Wish You Were Mine (UK chart #2).
In total, Powers has signed and released four number 1s, 20 top 5s and 22 top 10 tracks.
DJing
Powers has held residencies in most major Liverpool venues, including Garlands, Society, 051, Mansion, G-Bar, Nation and Kingdom and has performed worldwide at Ruby Skye, San Francisco; Zero Gravity, Dubai; Space, Pacha, Amnesia, Eden and Plastik in Ibiza.
He has also played at Creamfields and Tomorrowland dance music festivals in the UK and Belgium and alongside the likes of Calvin Harris; David Guetta; Avicii; Swedish House Mafia; Erick Morillo; Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike; Duke Dumont & many more.
Powers was voted Liverpool DJ Of The Year by the readers of the Liverpool Echo newspaper in 2009, 2010 & 2012. And voted Liverpool DJ Of The Year in 2013 by Liverpool City Council.
Records Producer
Between 2001 and 2003, Powers had a string of releases under the alias Onyx, including Every Little Time, Do You Wanna Funk, and Right In The Night.
In 2006, he created Cahill (named after then Everton FC player Tim Cahill) with Scott Rosser and Tim Condran, releasing re-edits and remixes for his DJ sets.
In 2008, Trippin' On You was picked up by MTV, Radio 1, 1 Xtra & many other stations and charted at #24 on the Official UK Chart and #29 on the Dutch Top 40 via a release on Spinnin Records. A further release came on Ultra Records in USA.
Cahill have become known worldwide for their hit remixes for more than 100 major artists including Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Ellie Goulding, Mariah Carey, Nicole Scherzinger, Leona Lewis, Paloma Faith and Selena Gomez.
In 2015, Powers’ collaboration with DJ/producer Philip George, Alone No More, debuted at number 1 on iTunes, number 1 on the Vodafone Big Top 40 and number 4 on the UK Singles Chart, achieving over 350,000 sales and over 60 million online streams. Alone No More also reached the top 10 on the US Billboard Dance Chart.
Radio
While working at 3 Beat, in 2000 Powers began a career in radio, doing guest mixes and producing dance shows on Liverpool station Juice FM. He was offered his own show in 2001 and from 2001-2008 headed a Saturday night slot and a dance classics show on Sundays. The shows championed funky house and struck a chord locally with record breaking listeners. Nationally the major players of the music industry were also taking notice of these shows and saw how influential they were. Regular big name guests included Axwell, Steve Angello, Calvin Harris, David Guetta and Erick Morillo.
2007-2011 Powers show times moved to the flagship Friday & Saturday 6-8pm slots, where he achieved the highest listening figures in the stations history.
In 2011, Powers joined rival Liverpool station Radio City 96.7, again gaining record figures for Friday and Saturday slots.
In 2013, he returned to Juice FM to present on Friday and Saturday. In 2015, Juice FM was acquired by Global and became Capital FM, where he currently hosts drivetime shows on Thursday and Friday.
Personal life
Powers still lives in Crosby, he is an avid Everton FC fan and has been the official matchday host at Goodison Park. He has endorsed and donated his services to a number of charities including Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, The Steven Gerrard Foundation, Roy Castle Foundation, Make Some Noise and Cash for Kids. In 2013 Powers remixed a song for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) as part of its Love Triangle campaign.
