Ansvar Insurance is a business division of Ecclesiastical Insurance plc, which is itself wholly owned by the Allchurches Trust. It is authorised and regulated by the Prudential Regulation Authority, and is also regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Etymology
Ansvar is the Swedish word for ‘responsibility’.
History
Ansvar Insurance was formed in Sweden in 1932 out of the Temperance Movement. Initially the business focused on personal home and motor insurance, but strong connections with the Church over the years was the catalyst for the development of specialist commercial policies for the not-for-profit sector - charities, churches and voluntary groups who make a positive contribution to society.
Ansvar expanded across the world into over 12 countries including the UK, with an office in London. In 1975 they moved to their current office in Eastbourne. Today Ansvar has developed to become one of the UK's leading charity insurers and is a business division of Ecclesiastical Insurance - providing protection for over 40,000 charity and voluntary groups between them.
Charity work
Each year Ansvar allocates a share of profits to organisations involved in educating school children about the effects of drugs and/or alcohol misuse such as Global Rock Challenge (drug and crime prevention through performing arts),[1] Coram Life Education (health, wellbeing and drug education),[2] and the Alcohol Education Trust.[3] Ansvar do not work or invest in companies whose businesses revolve around alcohol, tobacco, gaming or armaments. They were named as Insurance Company of the Year at the Better Society Awards 2015, an annual event that honours commercial companies whose efforts extend beyond commercial success and make valuable contributions to society.
