American School of Ulaanbaatar
The American School of Ulaanbaatar (ASU) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia is a private international school, which offers an educational program from Pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 for students of all nationalities. As of 2012, there are currently 90 staff members. The advisory board is composed of six individuals who represent community and are members of international education sector.
Curriculum
The American School of Ulaanbaatar offers a program that is based on the Ontario Curriculum. The curriculum is dynamic, progressive and balances the academic program in a student centered learning environment. The class size is limited to 24 students maximum and school day is 8:25 to 3:25 (4:25 on days with Extra Curricular Activities [E.C.A.]). Core academic subjects are English, Mathematics, Science, History and Social Studies. Supplementary subjects are technology, physical education, music, drama, visual arts, French, Chinese, Mongolian, and Spanish. All classes are taught in English except the language classes. There is a wide variety of E.C.A.s or after-school activities in which student can enroll in. English as a Second Language (E.S.L.) is provided for students in need. ASU is a center for ACT testing for high school graduates. ASU is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and a member of the National Honor Society. ASU as of 2013 has two schools under its name, a secondary school and an elementary school.
