Aleksandr Popov (born 17 November 1959) is a Soviet male former weightlifter, who competed in the first heavyweight class and represented Soviet Union at international competitions. He won the silver medal at the 1983 World Weightlifting Championships in the 100 kg category.[1] On 5 March 1988 he set a world record in the clean & jerk of 242.5 kg in Tallinn, Soviet Union. This record has not been broken before this weight category was discontinued after 1992.
