Alan Winton

Alan Peter Winton (born 4 September 1958)^[4] is the Bishop of Thetford in the Church of England.^[5][6]

Educated at Sheffield University, and gaining his PhD from that university in 1987, Winton trained for ministry at Lincoln Theological College and was ordained a deacon in 1991.^[4] His first post was as a Curate in Southgate, in the Diocese of London.^[7][8] Later he was Priest in charge of St Paul's Walden, then CME Officer for the St Albans Diocese. Finally (before his elevation to the Episcopate) he was Rector of Welwyn;^[9] during the latter part of that appointment, from 2007 til 2009, he was also an honorary canon of St Albans Abbey.^[4]

Winton is married with two children.^[3]
