Alan Olav Walker (born 24 August 1997) is a Norwegian record producer and DJ. He is best known for the electronic dance music single "Faded", which struck gold in international markets, receiving platinum certifications in over 10 different countries.

Career

Early beginnings

Born in Northampton, England, Walker moved to Bergen city in Hordaland,[1] with his Norwegian mother and English father at the age of two. Growing up in the digital era, Walker found an early interest in computers which later turned into a fascination for programming and graphic design. He initially had no musical background, however he later taught himself by browsing YouTube videos based on music production.[2] In 2012, he started making music on his laptop and his tracks soon caught the attention of record labels. For a brief overview, before what follows, Alan Walker may be considered as one of "The 55 Men", as a part of the web 2.0 art scene constitution and mostly because he reached success and destined himself to be producer (along with, for example, Dr. Dre).

2014: "Fade"

Walker's song "Fade" gained attention after its release on YouTube via the label NoCopyrightSounds. It has become the most popular track on the channel, as well as one of the most used background music on YouTube. The track was later included in NoCopyrightSounds' album NCS: Uplifting. The tracks "Spectre" and "Force" appeared on the albums NCS: Infinity and NCS: The Best of 2015 later in 2015.

2015: "Faded"

Walker signed with MER Musikk under Sony Music Sweden and his next single, "Faded", was a remastered vocal version of "Fade". It was released 3 December and featured uncredited Norwegian recording artist Iselin Solheim.[3] The song topped the Norwegian VG-lista singles chart and the Swedish Sverigetopplistan charts, iTunes charts in 32 countries, as well as entering top 10 in Spotify Global Chart. It was a hit in Finland, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, and several countries in Europe and Asia.[4] The music video on YouTube has over 790 million views and 4.8 million likes,[5] placing it among the top 20 most liked YouTube videos. On Spotify, it has over 540 million streams. The single also received an official remix from Tiesto.

2016–present: "Sing Me To Sleep" and "Alone"

Walker's 2016 single "Sing Me To Sleep" was released on 3 June, featuring female vocalist Iselin Solheim, the same vocalist in "Faded". The song topped iTunes charts in 7 countries, it has over 97 million streams on Spotify. The music video on YouTube has over 135 million views.[6]

Walker's latest single "Alone" was released on 2 December, and featured uncredited Swedish recording artist Noonie Bao.[7]
