Akron Bar Association
The Akron Bar Association is dedicated to improving the administration of law and justice by fostering community service, educating the Bar, improving public understanding of the law and justice system, and promoting the integrity of the profession.
The Akron Bar Association was founded on February 20, 1875, with approximately 50 members. It now has an active membership of over 1,400 lawyers, most of whom are in private practice, plus an additional 300+ associate members.
On December 3, 2007 the Akron Bar Association moved into its new permanent home at 57 South Broadway Street in Akron, Ohio. The Fire Station, built in 1915, is a magnificent historical building centrally located in the heart of Akron, close to the Courthouses and The University of Akron School of Law. The Akron Bar Association spent almost two years renovating the building, involving new technology while preserving certain historical aspects of Fire Station #1. The Akron Bar Association is proud to be a contributing member to the revitalization of downtown Akron.
The Akron Bar Association offers a Lawyer Referral & Information Service, Notary Public testing services & supplies, Continuing Legal Education, a directory of members, Street Law, and continues to find other ways to serve the public.
In addition, membership is offered to lawyers, law students, legal staff, paralegals and paralegal students. Members can take advantage of numerous social & networking events which occur throughout the year, discounts on CLE, committees and sections, discounts from supporting organizations, information & updates on local legal news via email and the Examiner (a monthly publication), and much more.
The Akron Bar Foundation
The Akron Bar Foundation was created in 1985 to serve as the fund-raising and charitable arm of the Akron Bar Association. The Foundation is composed of members in good standing of the Akron Bar Association, and Fellows, who are Akron Bar Association attorneys and judges who have distinguished themselves professionally, who have made a significant monetary donation to the Foundation, and who have given generously of their time to serve the communities where they live and work. The Foundation is governed by a 15-member Board of Governors. The organization has one standing committee, the Scholarship Fund Committee. Ad hoc committees are created on an as-needed basis. The Foundation strives to broaden its role in the community by supporting charitable activities and organizations whose goals fall within the Foundation's mission.
