Akish

According to the in the Book of Ether in the Book of Mormon, Akish (/ˈeɪ.kɪʃ/[1]) was a prominent figure among the Jaredites. In the book's narrative, Akish first established secret combinations, nearly destroying their civilization. He did this Jared's daughter danced before him, and to marry her Akish conspired with Jared to dethrone his father, Omer, the legitimate king. Later, Akish killed Jared and took the kingdom for himself.[2][3]

Akîsh may be a transliteration of אָכִישׁ (Achish in the King James Bible). David Rohl writes this name may be a shortened form of Akishimige, a Hurrian name meaning "the Sun God has given".[4]
