Buildings
- 490 BC - The Magadha imperial capital of Pataliputra (modern day Patna) in the Indian Subcontinent is begun with construction of a small fort (Pāṭaligrama) near the Ganges.
- 447–432 BC - Modern Parthenon in Athens built by Ictinus and Callicrates under the direction of the sculptor Phidias.
- About 430 BC - Temple of Apollo at Bassae in Arcadia constructed.
