2244 Tesla, provisional designation 1952 UW1, is a C-type asteroid of the main-belt. It was discovered on October 22, 1952 by Milorad B. Protić at Belgrade Observatory, then Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia, now Serbia.[1]
It was named for Serbian-American electrical engineer and inventor Nikola Tesla (1856–1943), best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system.[3]
It has an orbital period of 4 years, 261 days[1] and an diameter of 29 kilometers.[4]
