The opening ceremony of the 2020 Summer Olympics is scheduled to take place on the evening of Friday July 24th, 2020 in the National Stadium. As mandated by the Olympic Charter, the proceedings will combine the formal ceremonial opening of this international sporting event (including welcoming speeches, hoisting of the flags and the parade of athletes) with an artistic spectacle to showcase the host nation’s culture.
Venue
The National Stadium served as the main stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as being the venue for track and field events at the 1964 Summer Olympic Games. The new stadium is set to be the venue for the Opening ceremony and the main venue for the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games. The site will be redeveloped with a new larger-capacity. Demolition was completed in May 2015.[1]
