- Assuming that the copyright laws are not changed further, all works published in 1923 enter the public domain in the U.S., the first works to do so since the passage of the 1998 Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act.
- Unmanned spaceprobe New Horizons will make a close approach of the Kuiper belt object (KBO) 2014 MU69 on this date.
- June 8 – The 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, to be hosted by France, is scheduled to open at Parc Olympique Lyonnais in the Lyon suburb of Décines. The final is scheduled for July 7 at the same venue.
- September 20 – The 2019 Rugby World Cup (rugby union) is scheduled to open in Japan. It will be the first Rugby World Cup to be held in a nation outside the traditional top tier of the sport (i.e., those participating in the Six Nations Championship and The Rugby Championship). The final is scheduled for November 2.
- December – The final stage of the new cross London railway, Crossrail, opens enabling trains to run from Shenfield & Abbey Wood in the east to Reading & Heathrow Airport in the West.
