The 2016 Sligo Senior Football Championship is the 110th edition of the Sligo GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Sligo, Ireland. The tournament consists of 12 teams, with the winner going on to represent Sligo in the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship. The championship starts with a group stage and then progresses to a knock out stage.
St. Mary's were the defending champions after they defeated Curry in the previous years final.
Easkey made their return to the senior grade after claiming the 2015 Sligo Intermediate Football Championship title, however they were relegated back to the I.F.C. for 2017 when losing a 2nd replay of the Relegation final.
Tourlestrane claimed their 12th S.F.C. title when defeating defending champions St. Mary's 1-14 to 1-7 in the final at Markievicz Park on 2 October 2016.

Group Stage
All 10 teams enter the competition at this stage. The top team in Group A goes straight into the Semi-Finals, while the 2nd and 3rd placed teams in Group A along with the top 2 teams in Group B and C go into the Quarter-Finals. The teams who finish bottom in each group play each other in a Relegation Playoff.

Knock-Out Stages
Relegation Playoffs
Bottom placed teams in each group qualify for the Relegation Playoff. A random draw will be conducted to determine which teams play in the Relegation Semi-Final, with the loser proceeding to the Relegation Final. The loser of the final will be relegated to the Sligo Intermediate Championship for 2017.
