2009 ICC Awards
The LG ICC Awards were held on 1 October 2009 in Johannesburg in South Africa before the semi-finals of 2009 ICC Champions Trophy. Nominations were announced in Mumbai in early September while shortlist was announced on 15 September. These awards were given on the performance of the players between 13 August 2008 and 24 August 2009 and were presented in association with Federation of International Cricketers' Associations. It takes into account performances by players and officials during this period for the game.
International Cricket Council has been hosting ICC Awards since 2004 and now is in its sixth year. The previous ones were held in London, Sydney, Mumbai, Johannesburg and Dubai. ICC awards Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy to the Cricketer of the Year which is considered the most prestigious award in world cricket.

The Selection Panel
The ICC Awards selection panel was given a difficult task; providing a long-list of nominations to the 25 members of the voting academy to cast their votes in the individual player award categories and, using their experience and knowledge select the ICC World Test and ODI teams. The following are its members.[1]

Apart from individual awards, International Cricket Council also announced dream teams in different formats of the game of cricket. They are the following:[2][3]
Test Team of the Year
Mahendra Singh Dhoni was selected as the captain and wicketkeeper of the World XI Test team. Other players are:

- Tillakaratne Dilshan for scoring 96 not out off 57 balls against the West Indies in the semi-final of the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 at The Oval on 19 June 2009
- Chris Gayle for hitting 88 off 50 balls against Australia during the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 at The Oval on 6 June 2009
- Umar Gul for taking 5–6 against New Zealand during the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 at The Oval on 13 June 2009
